Race Summary

WILKO settled on the outside while three wide, made a four wide bid leaving the backstretch, moved to three wide midway through the turn, dropped back passing the quarter-pole, rallied again outside the furlong marker, surged to the lead near the sixteenth-pole and inched clear under steady left hand encouragement. AFLEET ALEX bobbled at the start then bumped with CONSOLIDATOR and ROMAN RULER, shifted four wide early on the initial turn, settled on the outside, engaged the leaders while five wide leaving the backstretch, dropped to four wide midway through the turn, took the lead passing the quarter-pole, led gamely into the final furlong, was collared near the sixteenth-pole then outfinished. SUN KING was rated while eager to run on the inside, settled a bit on the backstretch, moved through to contest the lead leaving the backstretch, dueled through the turn, bumped with CONSOLIDATOR in upper stretch, battled gamely into the final sixteenth and weakened slightly. CONSOLIDATOR was bumped at the start, tracked the pace on the outside, made a bid between rivals entering the far turn, dueled into the stretch, bumped with SUN KING inside the three-sixteenths marker, fought determinedly into the final sixteenth and gave way grudgingly. ROMAN RULER bumped with AFLEET ALEX after the start, steadied off heels approaching the first turn, continued just off heels into the backstretch, was hard held near the back of the field, saved ground on the far turn, angled out sharply near the furlong marker and came up empty. PROUD ACCOLADE leaned out at the start, settled between rivals, came under a ride leaving the backstretch, moved around TWICE UNBRIDLED midway through the turn and failed to respond. TWICE UNBRIDLED set the pace under moderate pressure, steadied while being passed with three furlongs to run and stopped. SCANDINAVIA hesitated at the start, raced three wide on the first turn, was reserved near the back of the field, roused while three wide on the far turn, moved to four wide near the quarter-pole and had nothing left.

Race Summary

BETTER TALK NOW was unhurried for a mile, angled out on the far turn, rapidly closed the gap on the turn, circled five wide rallying into the stretch, charged to the front while drifting in slightly in midstretch then drew away under steady left hand urging. KITTEN'S JOY was well placed slightly off the rail along the backstretch, launched a rally in the two path on the turn, made a run along the inside to threaten in upper stretch but was no match for the winner while outfinishing POWERSCOURT for the place. POWERSCOURT (GB) was unhurried early after breaking poorly, made a strong middle move while four wide along the backstretch, opened a clear advantage on the far turn, maintained a slim lead into upper stretch, brushed with the winner while drifting out in midstretch then weakened under pressure in the final eighth. MAGISTRETTI was taken in hand for six furlongs, eased back slightly on the far turn, rallied three wide to reach contention on the turn, moved up between horses in upper stretch, steadied in traffic nearing the furlong marker then weakened late. MUSTANFAR was outrun for a mile and failed to threaten while improving his position. REQUEST FOR PAROLE raced up close while saving ground for a mile and steadily tired thereafter. STRUT THE STAGE chased the pacesetter along the rail to the far turn and faltered. STAR OVER THE BAY was used up setting the early pace. Following a stewards inquiry into the stretch run there was no change in the order of finish.
