Footnotes

IMPERIALISM unhurried along the inside early, came out on the second turn, circled five wide into the stretch and rallied gamely under urging to get up late. LION HEART four wide on the first turn, dueled outside then alongside a rival on the backstretch, was three deep leaving the second turn, inched clear in the stretch and just failed to hold off the winner. CONSECRATE bumped at the start, was between horses early then chased off the rail, came out on the second turn and four wide into the stretch and gained the show. QUINTONS GOLD RUSH four wide on the first turn, stalked outside, ranged up four wide leaving the second turn but lacked the needed late kick. HOSCO had good early speed three deep, angled in and dueled a bit off the rail, was between horses leaving the second turn, continued inside the runner-up and weakened. CASTLEDALE (IRE) four wide into the first turn, angled in and stalked a bit off the rail, came outside a rival into the stretch and did not rally. WIMPLESTILTSKIN broke out a bit, forced then stalked the pace inside, dropped back on the second turn and weakened. LUCKY PULPIT between horses early, chased off the rail, went four wide on the second turn and six wide into the stretch and also weakened. SPELLBINDER settled three deep on the first turn then outside a rival, went four wide on the second turn and did not rally. HASSLEFREE crowded at the start, pulled his way between horses stalking the pace, bid inside nearing the quarter pole, then dropped back and had little left for the stretch.
