Footnotes

IMPERIALISM broke in a bit, was taken off the rail and raced unhurried on the backstretch, began to move up on the turn, came four wide into the stretch, rallied under some left handed urging, lugged inward through the final furlong, gained the lead past midstretch and proved best under a late hold. HOSCO sped to the early lead, set the pace off the rail, angled in on the turn, could not hold off the winner but gamely saved the place. CONSECRATE prompted the pace outside the runner-up, stalked outside a rival on the turn, bid again past midstretch and was edged for second. WIMPLESTILTSKIN stalked the pace between horses then outside a rival, came three deep into the stretch and was outfinished. TETON FOREST close up stalking the pace inside, waited off heels in upper stretch, was boxed in along the rail in midstretch and lacked a late bid. NUMBER JUAN saved ground chasing the pace, came out into the stretch and did not rally.
