Footnotes

MASTER DAVID forced the pace outside a rival, put a head in front past midway on the second turn, angled in some, fought back into and through the stretch, regained the advantage a sixteenth out and gamely prevailed under urging. BORREGO stalked the pace inside, came out on the second turn, bid three deep and took the lead leaving that turn, battled outside the winner until the final stages and just held second. PREACHINATTHEBAR chased off the rail, came three deep into the stretch and finished well. ACTION THIS DAY allowed to lag back off the rail, began to advance leaving the second turn, came five wide into the stretch and closed gamely. WINNER FROM MARS bobbled at the start, stalked outside the runner-up, came out on the second turn and four wide into the stretch and weakened. GETHSEMANI had good early speed and angled in, dueled inside, dropped back on the second turn and gave way. TRUE CONTENDER refused to break and stayed in the gate. The stewards conducted an inquiry into the start before declaring TRUE CONTENDER an official starter.
