Race Summary

ROSES IN MAY moved up rapidly to contest the early pace, pressed the pace between horses through rapid fractions along the backstretch, settled just outside the leader on the far turn, closed the gap nearing the quarter pole, surged to the front in upper stretch, dug in when challenged in midstretch, battled heads apart into deep stretch and prevailed under strong left hand encouragement. PERFECT DRIFT was unhurried though the opening half mile, steadily worked his way forward along the inside on the turn, angled three wide to reach contention at the top of the stretch, drew on nearly even terms with the winner in midstretch, but couldn't overtake that one through the final eighth. BOWMAN'S BAND was outrun for five furlongs, launched a rally along the inside leaving the backstretch, angled out while gaining on the far turn, checked between horses midway on the turn, angled four wide into the stretch then closed late between horses to gain a share. SARAVA was unhurried for six furlongs, saved ground to the turn, swung five wide entering the stretch then improved his position with a mild late rally. GYGISTAR raced in the middle of the pack while saving ground, rallied mildly along the rail leaving the turn, drifted to the three path in upper stretch then lacked a strong closing response. PEACE RULES chased a rapid pace while four wide along the backstretch, remained a factor to the turn then steadily tired thereafter. NEWFOUNDLAND failed to mount a serious rally while five wide throughout. YESSIRGENERALSIR rushed up to gain the early advantage, set a rapid pace along the rail to the top of the stretch and gave way. SEATTLE FITZ (ARG) broke a bit slowly, moved up four wide on the first turn, chased the leaders while continuing wide along the backstretch, dropped back leaving the turn and faded in the stretch.
